Transport Group
Group Overview
The TCP research team at NCSU consists of graduate students and faculty at North Carolina State University conducting research on TCP congestion control, High-speed TCP protocols, and TCP-Friendly protocol. We developed congestion control protocols, called
BIC and
CUBIC, which have been the
default TCP algorithms for Linux and are currently being used by more than 40% of Internet servers around the world and by several tens millions Linux users for daily Internet communication. We have two testbeds, called BIC Testbed and Centaur Testbed. BIC Testbed consists of 18 rack-mountable machines and all the machines are connected through the machines running Dummynet. The BIC Testbed enables us to perform experiments for TCP algorithms under controlled environments where all the testing parameters and results can be monitored. On the other hand, Centaur Testbed, which is colocated at Centaur Lab in NCSU, is connected to the Internet through NLR (National Lamda Rail). Using the Centaur Testbed, we perform real Internet experiments.
